The very first open house for our street. A collective of artists,
designers and businesses displayed a range of
creative work from oil paintings, watercolours, ceramics, glassware,
hand crafted jewellery and greetings cards.
In Wallace and Sewell, Peta Sweetie displayed her handcrafted
jewellery made from vintage buttons, they were very popular.
Lie Down I think I love you became a pop up cinema, showing the
Dance films of Colleen Bartley. Outside King’s the Chemist the
Jewellery of ….., sold very well. Pet Groomer’s ‘Great and Small’ was taken
over by the shabby chic furniture of Tea and Sympathy; they were
applauded by our visitors. The Antique shop’s resident artist Chris Burns
exhibited his new black and white drawings. Local artist, Jean Elrington’s
wonderful watercolour paintings, of local buildings brightened up the EC1
Lighting shop. Guy and his hairdressing team offered styling tips to a crowd
of eager fashionistas. Sketching between each gallery space was Ben Jones, who drew
brilliant caricatures of local visitors. Flor Unikon hosted
the ceramics, cards and fabric dolls of Angie Jack; the amazing cartoons of
Tobias Tak; the luminous ink paintings of Melly Nirage Von Fritzer; delicate coloured drawings by Paul Jokinen-Carter and bold, bright oil paintings from Pia Patra. Finally, Abigail Bloom demonstrated how to ice a cake, her witty
delivery and fun approach to her subject kept us all entertained; and Pasi showed us how to create a bouquet and did an impromptu teach-in to one of our visitors.
The positive feedback from local people and the exhibitors has encouraged
us to plan a 2nd open house in the autumn.
